Ernest Sertuche

Ernest E. Sertuche was born in Cuero, TX on August 1, 1957 to the late Erasmo Rivera and Amelia Sertuche. God called him home on Friday, April 15, 2016. He married Nelda Gutierrez, the love of his life, April 10, 1976. God blessed them with 40 years of marriage and two daughters, Sara of San Antonio and Kristy of Yorktown.

His family was the love of his life. He treated his family like royalty and loved to spoil them. He also devoted 19 years of his life to the Little League association as President and coached numerous teams. Many of his players still call him “Coach.”

He graduated from the University of Houston, Victoria with a Bachelor of Science Degree and worked for the DeWitt County Juvenile Probation Department for 15 years and the last 10 years as Chief. Ernest was instrumental in working with many families. He was an advocate for “his kids” and was passionate about helping them.

He was preceded in death by his father Erasmo Rivera and grandparents Guadalupe and Josephina Sertuche.

He survived by his wife Nelda of Yorktown, daughters Sara of San Antonio, Kristy of Yorktown, mother Amelia Hernandez of Cuero, brothers Jessie and Robert Hernandez, Ernest, Pete, Larry and George Rivera, sisters Molly Escobedo, Lydia Gomez, Erma Villarreal, Susan Salazar, Lisa Rivera and Brenda Dominiquez, in laws Alex Gutierrez and Carolina Salinas, beloved sister-in-laws Bonnie and Sue Gutierrez, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm with a rosary starting at 7 pm Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 2 pm Monday, April 18, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Memorials can be given to the charity of their choice.
