Gerry Lee (Henze) Riske

 Gerry Lee Henze Riske, 73, of Yorktown, passed away Monday Jan. 15, 2018.  She was born Jan. 25, 1944 in Yorktown to the late Gerhardt and Sadie Alves Henze.   She graduated from Yorktown High School in 1962. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Hermann Sons.

She was married to her high school sweetheart, Victor Riske, on July 2, 1966, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alice, TX, by Reverend A.H. Bohls, and was blessed to spend more than 51 happy years by his side.  Together they had four children, and over the years, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren were added to the family.

She was employed by Luling Elementary School for a time, but spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and grandmother.  While she did not enjoy the love and joys of cooking, she was known for her “Noodle meat” dish and Chess Cake.  She kept Hallmark in business by sending  cards to everyone that was special to her.  She recorded many special memories for her friends and family using her photography skills and Fuji disposable cameras.  She had a great sense of humor and will be genuinely missed by so many.

She is survived by her husband Victor Riske, children Kimber (Don) McCrory, Ryan (Debbie) Riske, Gayle (Ashley) Hoefling, Kristin (Roger) Schustereit; grandchildren Matthew (Amy) Staton, Stephanie Riske and Sadie Schustereit.  She is also survived by her great grandchildren Nash Staton and Norah Staton and two nieces Laurie (Scott) Stevenson, Cory Nau (Jennifer Magnon) and beloved great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Twyla Henze Nau, and her brother in law,  T. Wayne Nau.

Visitation will be January 27th, at 10:00am, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with a memorial service following at 11:00am. A celebration of life will be held that evening for family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Riske, Matthew Staton, Ashley Hoefling, Roger Schustereit, Don McCrory, Scott Stevenson, Gary Teltschik, Larry Henze, Dennis Henze, and Gerry's grandchildren and great grandchildren.  The family would like to thank Terrie Waskow for her compassion and support, as well as Selena, Lisa, Linda, Melissa, and Shirley from Hospice of South Texas for their care.
