Joseph Leon Hurta, Jr. 97, of Weesatche passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016. He was born in Westhoff, Texas to the late Joseph and Emilie Cernota Hurta on July 31, 1919. He married Louise Marie Willms Hurta on April 19, 1941. Joe and Louise enjoyed 32 years raising their rambunctious crew of five children before the untimely death of Louise. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather to his large family He was employed many years in the oilfield business as transport truck driver and a pipeline pumper gauger.
During his long retirement he enjoyed traveling with his faithful companion, Dorothy Lude and fishing with his son, Sammy and his close friends, Lester and Milton Weise. His favorite times were spent with a rod and reel in his hand catching the big one. He always looked forward to a challenging game of dominoes with his Weesatche friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Louise, his five siblings, Edward, Charlie, Jerry, Lena, and Lillie; three sons-in-law, Aubrey Hattenbach, Erwin Hardt and Larry Schuenemann, and two infant grandsons.
He is survived by his long- time companion, Dorothy Lude, children JoLois Schuenemann, Gail Hardt, Jesse Hurta(Linda), Sammy Hurta (Donna), and Susie Wolfshohl (Doug). His is also survived by 14 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be held at Massey Funeral Home, Yorktown, Texas on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Massey Funeral Home on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Weesatche Cemetery.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Don Schuenemann, Darryl Schuenemann, Michael Hattenbach, David Hurta, Jonathan Hurta, and Christopher Westphal. Honorary pallbearers are Lester Weise, Glenwood Willms, and his granddaughters; Laurey, Sandra, Kimberly, Katrina, Jessica, Wendi, Jenni, and Amy Jo.
Memorials can be made to the Weesatche Fire Department or donors’ choice.
