Melvin Straube

Melvin Straube, 88, of the Gruenau community near Yorktown, died Tue. Oct. 10, 2017 in Cuero. He was born January 9, 1929, at Gruenau to the late Willie and Ella Roewe Straube. He married the love of his life, Elaine Sommer on October 2, 1949 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown. They were married for 60 years. She preceded him in death in 2009. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gruenau Turn and Schuetzen Verein, and Gruenau Sons of Hermann Lodge. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher in the Gruenau community.

He is survived by son Bruce Straube and daughter in-law, Debbie Straube of Cypress, Texas, son, Scott Straube of Yorktown, granddaughter, Kristel Straube Comai and husband Mike, of Austin, great granddaughter Chloe Comai of Austin, and grandson, Kevin Straube and wife, Kristin of Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by his sister, Vernell Dohmann of Goliad.

Visitation 5-7 pm Mon. Oct. 16. 2017 at Massey Funeral Home in Yorktown. Funeral service 10 am Tue. Oct. 17, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown with burial to follow at Westside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Straube, Mike Comai, Brian Dohmann, Joe Thompson, Thomas Gregory and Billy Niemeier.
