Vivian "V.C." Cowey

Vivian Carrol "V.C." Cowey, 66, of Goliad, passed away Saturday June 24, 2017.  He was born Feb. 27, 1951 in Nixon, Texas to the late James Stephen and Martha Emma Click Cowey.  He served 7 years in the National Guard.  He married Peggy Jean Baacke on July 10, 1971 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Weesatche.

After the National Guard he worked for a road construction company, then worked for Harkins Company out of Alice for 15 years in the oil field.  He then became a contract gauger and worked for another 27 years in the oil field.  He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandkids in the outdoors.  He also loved horses and raising cattle.

He is survived by his wife, of 45 years, Peggy Cowey of Goliad, daughter Shannon Kegebein and husband Kenny of George West; son Gary Cowey and wife Amanda of Cuero; grandchildren Katelynn Kegebein, James Morgan Kegebein, Kaylynn Cowey and Kassidy Cowey.  He is also survived by his sister Margie Moore of Alabama and Joyce Pierpont of Smiley; brothers Lee Cowey of Nixon and Charles Cowey of Jones Creek.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James H. “Buddy” Cowey, Stanley Ray Cowey and an infant brother.

Visitation will be 6:00 -8:00 pm Monday June 26, 2017 at Massey Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday June 27, 2017 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Weesatche.  Interment will follow at St. Andrews Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nathan May, Lee Cowey, Charles Cowey, Glenn Karnei, Allen Kolodziejcyk and Refugio Guerra.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Martinez, Jimmy Newman, Steve Ampelas and Ronney Clark.

Memorials can be given to St. Andrews Lutheran Church, First Baptist Church Yorktown or Faith Temple Church in Nixon.
