Lela Ruppert Obituary

Lela “Dolly” Ruppert, 93, of Yorktown passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024. She was born August 19, 1930 in Yorktown to Charles and Gesine Schmidt Riedesel. She was baptized on June 10, 1947 in St Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown by Pastor Hankammer.  She married the love of her life LeRoy Ruppert on December 13, 1951. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who worked side by side with her husband and father-in-law on the farm before purchasing New Davy Store in 1971. She spent her days at New Davy playing dominos, enjoying visiting with customers, all while becoming a well-known talented artist around the county.  She enjoyed road trips with her family and friends to various casinos, and attending events spotlighting her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  The highlight of her year was the Annual New Davy Christmas Singing Party that many locals attended.   She was a longtime member of various social domino clubs, the Garfield Shooting Club, and Hermann Sons Grand Lodge.

She is survived by her children Charles (Jan) Ruppert, Laura Sanders, and Peggy Oliver. She is also survived by grandchildren Carl David Clyne, Melissa (Jose) Alcazar, Jeffery (Donna) Ruppert, Misty Corpus, Jennifer (Derek) Franke, Derrick (Ashley) Green and 13 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law H.C. Ruppert, her husband LeRoy Ruppert, and her siblings Edna Rayes, Jane Metting, Viola Teschendorf, August, Valentine, Ewald, Hugo, Edward, George, Elton Louis, and her twin brother Lee Roy Riedesel.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday, February 23, 2024 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 am February 24, 2024 at St Paul Lutheran Church. Interment to follow at Westside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carl David Clyne, Jeffery Ruppert, Derrick Green, Samuel Forbes, Jose Alcazar, and Chad Hahn. Honorary pallbearers will be Melissa Alcazar, Misty Corpus, Jennifer (Derek) Franke, Bill Bargmann, Eddie Machost, Noel Marin, and Sue Williams.

A special thank you to Home Instead and Hospice of South Texas for caring for our mother, and grandmother during this time.

Memorials may be given to St Paul Lutheran Church, Hospice of South Texas, or donor’s choice.
