Donald McCrory Obituary

After a lengthy battle with cancer, Donald H. McCrory Jr., won his fight and went to his reward on April 30, 2018. He was born to Donald H. McCrory Sr. and Elizabeth Hoff McCrory in Borger, TX on July 13, 1948. He was baptized a Baptist. Don was a 1966 graduate of Ingleside High School and a proud member of the Ingleside Mustangs that played for the State 1-A football title in 1964 (they lost to Archer City 13-6). He graduated from Del Mar Tech in CCTX. He soon began a career that would take him many places around the world.

Don earned his living and raised his family as a diesel mechanic, but he felt he had found his true calling in retail as the owner of Granny Kim’s Liquor Shoppe. He loved “his customers” as he called them and did his best to make sure all of his clients’ wants were met. Don made many new friends in the 8 years he had the store and was very grateful for the loyalty they showed his small business. It was only closed when his illness made it impossible to carry on.

While he was not a particularly religious man, he was spiritual and had a strong faith in God. He believed that God answers all prayers in time and in his way. Don thanked the Lord daily for making lasting changes in his life. Affectionately known as “Duck” to family and close friends, Don was an avid fisherman and hunter. He appreciated the outdoors and spent many an hour outside working on numerous projects or playing with his dog.

In 1990, Don met his wife, Kimber, at Cowgirl Night Club in Victoria. Having had their first date on Thanksgiving night, they were married on January 12, 1991. They were not sure if it was love at first sight, but they did know there was a special something between them right away. Kimber knew he was a keeper, when he planned their dates to include her young son. The marriage lasted over 27 years and they considered each other soulmates.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Floyd Fahrenthold; his mother-in-law Gerry L Riske; and his beloved lab, Baby Crockett.

He is survived by his wife, Kimber Riske McCrory. His children, Belinda McCrory Gonzales (Ben), C.Chad McCrory (Nikole) and Matthew Staton (Amy). His sisters, Shirley McCrory Fahrenthod and Cynthia McCrory Hougham (David). His grandchildren, Julie and Jacob Gonzales; Desiree and Taylor McCrory and Nash and Norah Jane Staton. His father-in-law, Victor Riske, his sisters-in-law, Gayle (Ashley) Hoefling and Kristin (Roger) Schustereit and his brother-in-law, Ryan (Debbie) Riske. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family.

Honorary pallbearers will be his dear friends; Milton Lee, Billy Rodgers, Jason Rangel, Jim Shotwell and Dwayne Buesing.

The service will be held on May 5th, 2018, at Massey Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and the memorial will be at 11:00 a.m. A BBQ luncheon will be held immediately afterward at the Ortiz Ranch. Don’s nephew, Mr. Tim Fahrenthold will conduct the service.
