Marvin A. PettyJohn

Marvin A. PettyJohn, 83, of Yorktown, exchanged this life for immortality on Jan. 29, 2018.  He was born in Asher, Oklahoma on Jan. 6, 1935 to the late Louie and Helen PettyJohn.

Growing up, Marvin and his sister Mildred experienced the mobile life of an oil field family. Marvin went to high school in White Oak, Texas and played in the Rose Bowl parade with his high school band. He attended Texas Tech University where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Geology and also met the love of his life, Ruth Weldon. They married in 1956. After a brief service in the Army, Marvin and Ruth had a son, Stayton. Marvin, Ruth and Stayton then experienced the same mobile life of an oil field family as Marvin advanced in his career. After living and working in 3 different states, Marvin settled his family in Enid, OK where he worked as a District Field Superintendent until he retired from the oil patch in 1983. At that point, he and Ruth relocated to Yorktown, TX where he started a second career in carpentry. He later fully retired and enjoyed his remaining days with Ruth. While in Yorktown, he became very involved with his church, First Presbyterian Church in Yorktown. A passion he pursued until he stepped away from his church responsibilities at the beginning of 2018. Marvin and Ruth celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, their son Stayton and his wife Michele, their granddaughter Morgan and her husband Tyler, and their grandson Austin and his wife Sydney.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Mildred.

Visitation is 5-7 pm Saturday Feb. 3, 2018 at Massey Funeral Home.  Funeral service 1 pm Sunday Feb. 4, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown.  Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.
