Patsy A. Cates, 77, of Victoria passed away at home surrounded by family on June 21, 2018. She was born on December 8, 1940 to the late Raymond Melton and Alice Olsen. She enjoyed crossword puzzles with her coffee, shopping around for antiques, and buying lots of shoes and purses. She had a love of reading that she passed down to her daughters and many of the grandchildren. Patsy retired from DuPont and was one of the first female operators at the plant.
She is survived by her daughters Sherrie Blank, Shannon (Carlton) Tillery, Alice Cates, Mary Ann Cates, and Patsy K. Cates. She is also survived by her brother’s retired Lt. Col William Ray (Kyong O.) Melton and Robert Leroy (Ann) Melton, 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, her Chihuahua Chica, her extended family Joel Anderson, Ellen Anderson White, Jim Anderson, Chris Caraway, Liz Wright, Victor Ybarbo Jr, Mario Ybarbo, and Lonnie Ybarbo.
She has joined in heaven her parents, life-long friends Linda Kuecker, Edith Caraway, Patsy Leonard, and her chow Wesley.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of her co-workers from DuPont.
On behalf of the Cates family we would like to extend our greatest gratitude and a special thank you to Hospice of South Texas, Doctor Gorouhi, Doctor Verma, and Doctor Llompart, who all took part in her care and treatment during her battle with cancer.
Memorials can be given in her honor to Hospice of South Texas or donor’s Choice.
A visitation with the family will be held Saturday June 30, 2018 at 12 pm with a Memorial service beginning at 1 pm at Vanderbilt Baptist Church, 167 Victoria St., Vanderbilt, TX 77991. Reception to follow.
