Philip Joseph Bock Jr. 77, of Yorktown passed away July 4, 2018. He was born Nov. 29, 1940 in Yorktown to the late Philip Joseph Sr. and Mary Frances Broll Bock. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Philip was born and raised in Yorktown, TX. Upon completion of high school, he enlisted in the army with honorable discharge in 1961 and returned to Yorktown. He worked in the oil industry until joining the Yorktown ISD in 1986 where he worked in maintenance. If you asked Philip his occupation, he was most proud of driving a school bus and classified his life occupation as a “bus driver.” He loved the children, often bringing donuts onto the bus so they started the day being full and he cherished the idea that he drove the children of children he carried on the bus early in his career. He was honored the citizens of Yorktown entrusted him to carry their children to and from school each day.
Philip was an avid outdoorsman and loved the land. He loved hunting and fishing and the camaraderie it brought within the community. He cherished the relationships he developed while doing the activities he loved. Philip fostered his relationships with countless nieces, nephews and grandchildren with his spirit of the outdoors and the persistent loving memories are in this element.
Most important, he was Yorktown’s every day man. A reliable, honest, hard-working, blue-collar, self-made, can do spirited man who loved his family and community. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger. He was a companion on late night hunts, to rodeos and blue grass festivals. He was a Yorktown and family historian, a bus driver and an outdoorsman. He was a loving father to devoted daughters, a world class brother and uncle, a spry and playful grandfather and devoted man of faith who will be deeply missed.
Philip is survived by his daughters Kelly (Bret) Mettler of Nashville, TN Leighann Bock of Cuero, TX brother Alex (Patricia) Bock of Smiley, TX and sister Rosemarie (Alvin) Warzecha of San Antonio, TX.
