Robbie Gurnik, 89, of Yorktown, passed away Saturday August 24, 2019. She was born in Yoakum on June 21, 1930 to the late Leslie and Sophia Byars. She was an active member with many civic duties such as: an officer of VFW-Kenedy, on the Chamber of Commerce, City council-woman, and previous wife of former Mayor Gene Czaja in Yorktown. Through-out her life Robbie served as a waitress, a nurse’s aide, owner of several resturants in Kenedy, Corpus Christi, Sabinal, and also co-owner of Gene’s Studio in Yorktown.
Robbie is survived by her husband Frank Gurnik, daughter Donna (Don) Sparr, son James (Victoria) Lee Stowell Jr., grandchildren: Sharon Sparr, Kathryn (Roy) Simmons, Amanda Fox, Jared Stowell, Christopher Stowell, great-grandchildren: Kayla (Cody) Hanes, Piper Grace Simmons, Indie Skye Simmons, River Glen Simmons, and Bastian Fox and great-great-granddaughter Juliet Evelyn Hanes. She is also survived by her step-daughter Sharon Young and step-grandson Ryan Young, and numerous nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her son Charles Randall Freude, her parents, brothers Leslie and Glen Byars, sisters Elizabeth Matula, Gladys Becker, and Edna Kramer.
Pallbearers are Don Sparr, Roy Simmons, Cody Hanes, Jared Stowell, Scott Atkinson and Norvan Moore.
Visitation 5-7 pm Friday August 30, 2019 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service 1 pm Saturday August 31, 2019 at Massey Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Karnes County Memorial in Kenedy, Texas.
