Bobby Nelson Obituary

Bobby Nelson, 82, of Nordheim passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020. He was born in Corpus Christi, TX on Feb. 28, 1938 to the late Christopher and Mary Corkill Nelson. After his father’s death, his family moved to Port Aransas at the age of 3. He married the love of his life of 57 years, Beth, on November 02, 1963. Bobby and Beth lived on the Island until 1984 when they moved the family to Nordheim.

Bobby started his career in the grocery business at a young age, where he then advanced to butcher. He ran the White Marlin Commissary for several years, then managed the Family Center before buying his own store (Bobby’s Grocery) bar and apartments. He then added the Exxon Service Station and Mustang Construction. He purchased land in Dewitt County in 1973 and moved his family here in February of 1984, where he worked for Yorktown Motors and Bill Allman Refrigeration. He also bought and sold houses in the Yorktown area.

Bobby had a heart of gold and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t have done for his family. He was the most selfless man and left a positive impact on anyone’s life he came into. If he wasn’t at the Ranch fixing something, he was in town running errands and finding excuses to visit people around town. He was a great teacher to have, not only for his children and grandchildren, but for everybody. He spent hours in his shop, always finding something that needed to be fixed. Anytime one of his children or grandchildren needed something done, he was there within minutes. He went above and beyond for his family, even hanging Christmas lights when he was in his 70’s. Grandpa always said that his grandkids kept him going. He loved being a parent and grandparent, it was his calling in life. There was nothing he wanted more than to travel with his family, whether it was a trail ride in the hill country or zip-lining through the mountains of Colorado. He was so supportive and proud of his children and grandchildren and he loved watching their activities, whether it be a dance recital or barrel race.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Beth Nelson, children Jimmy “J.D.” Nelson and wife Rhonda, Paige Nelson, Gina Allman and husband Matt and Shane Nelson and wife Elaine; sister Mary Ann Motes, grandchildren Andrew Nelson and fiancé Shannon, Cody Nelson and wife Brooke, Amanda Van Schuyver, Grant Allman, Grehsen Allman, Brittan Allman, Brycen Allman, Brielle Allman, Rayce Allman, Ryan Nelson and Reese Nelson. He is also survived by four great granddaughters Avery Van Schuyver, Ava Van Schuyver, Brooklyn Van Schuyver and Riley Nelson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Virgina Fisher and brother Edward Nelson.
