It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Anthony Riemenschneider, also known as “Tony” “Chucky” “Dudley” and most importantly as “Pops” Charles passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 73 in the comfort of his home.
Charles was born on April 20, 1952, in Yorktown, Texas to Charles G. and Bertha Riemenschneider. He attended elementary school in Weesatche, Texas and graduated from Goliad High School. After graduating, he proudly joined the United States Air Force. While on a short military pass, he met the love of his life Shirley Nesloney at a dance at Nordheim Dance Hall. Unfortunately, that time was short and the distance was long as he was stationed in Minot, North Dakota. They wrote letters back and forth and were married on June 9, 1972, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Weesatche, Texas.
Charles Anthony Riemenschneider, lovingly known as “Pops” to his grandchildren, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was a kind, gentle, and soft-spoken man whose presence brought comfort and steadiness to everyone who knew him.
Pops was a devoted husband who loved Shirley with his whole heart. He stood faithfully by her side, caring for her through her illness with patience, tenderness, and unwavering dedication. Their love was a quiet but powerful example of commitment, compassion, and true partnership.
He was a hardworking and dependable man, dedicated to his job for over 30 years. In all that time, he never once called in sick and never turned down a day of overtime. His strong work ethic and sense of responsibility defined him, and he took great pride in providing for his family.
Family was the center of Pops’ world. He found his greatest joy in time spent with his children and grandchildren, especially taking the boys fishing at Indianola, where many cherished memories were made. He also treasured family vacations at Kontiki in Rockport, Texas — times filled with laughter, togetherness, and stories that will live on for generations.
Pops was also passionate about metal detecting and was proud to have started the South Texas Treasure Hunters Metal Detecting Club, where he shared his enthusiasm, knowledge, and friendship with others who became like family.
Above all else, Pops will be remembered for his kindness, his gentle spirit, and the quiet strength he carried through life. He was the kind of man who didn’t need to speak loudly to be heard — his actions, his love, and his integrity said everything. He leaves behind a family who adored him, grandchildren who will forever call him Pops, and a legacy of love, devotion, and hard work that will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his loving mother Bertha Riemenschneider of Weesatche, his daughters Crystal Riemenschneider of Cuero, Kelly (Todd) Reed of Cuero, son, David Riemenschneider of Hoonah, Alaska, his favorite fishing buddies: Trace, Josh, Jake and Trent. sisters Vickie (Darvin) Borgfeld of Weesatche, Janna Martin of Schroedter and Neal (Ursula) Riemenschneider of Victoria.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Riemenschneider and father, Charles G. Riemenschneider.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. at Massey Funeral Home in Yorktown, Texas. Funeral services will immediately follow at the same location. Interment will take place afterward at Clinton Cemetery in Cuero, Texas.
Pallbearers carrying Charles to his final resting place are David Riemenschneider, Trace Reed, Joshua Irvin, Jacob Irvin, Trent Reed, Todd Reed, Cody Hannafious, and Dr. Nathan Borgfeld.
