Darwin Sparck Obituary

Darwin William Sparck known as “Sparcky” passed away at the age of 90 on Oct. 19, 2020 in Yorktown Texas.

He was born on December 2, 1929 in Yorktown to Willie and Caroline Sparck. He grew up in Yorktown. After graduating from high school in 1948 he began working at Southwestern Bell. He worked there for 40 years. He finally retired at the age of 59 while living in Kingsville. Sparcky married Rosie Colin on February 20, 1982.

Sparcky had many hobbies. When he was younger he coached baseball/softball and was the President of the Women’s Softball League in Kingsville. He enjoyed gardening, working in his flower beds, woodworking, and working at the Historical Society in Cuero and also at the Yorktown museum. He loved to research the old wagon trails all around the Yorktown area. He was very passionate about researching history. This led him to start writing a book about his own family’s history.

Sparcky also loved to listen to his big band music on Saturdays while working in his shop and cooking German rice pudding. Sparcky and Rosie also loved spending time with all their kids, grandkids and great grandchildren. He loved when they would all come and visit and go to Western Days together. On weekends he and Rosie loved to go out dancing together and even won many dance contests.

Sparcky is preceded in death by his father Willie, his mother Caroline, and his brother, Carlton.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Rosie of 38 years, his brother Vernon of Yorktown, his half-sister Eve (Bill) Gilford, his son Glenn Sparck, his daughter Pam Sparck, his daughter Caroline Sparck of Kingsville, and his son Darwin (Leslie) Sparck of Seguin. He is also survived by step-daughter Nora De La Garza of Pearland, stepson Peter De La Garza of Friendswood, and stepson Gilbert (Monica) De La Garza of Carrollton. Sparcky truly adored all of his grandchildren, Katrina McCrindle, Brandon McCrindle, Rene Hinojosa, Patricia Hinojosa, Autash Hernandez, Tyler Sparck, Hailey Sparck, Kelly Cantu, JR Perez, Vanessa Capehart, Briana Del La Garza, and Gabriel De La Garza.
