Dorothy Trevilion Obituary

After bravely persevering through years of health problems, Dorothy Parker Trevilion passed away surrounded by family on June 7, 2020. She was born September 8, 1937, in Winnsboro, Louisiana, to John & Vida Mae Parker, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas Harbin Trevilion III, her sister, Patsy Knieper, and her brother-in-law John B. Trevilion.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas Harbin Trevilion Jr. (Tom), daughter & son-in-law, Jeanne & Bob Gary, son & daughter-in-law, John & Heather Trevilion, granddaughter & grandson-in-law, Parker (Gary) & Andrew Nelson, grandsons John Thomas and States Trevilion, and great-grandchildren Sofia, James and Emilia Nelson, sister & brother-in-law Sue & Ray Tucker, sister Lynn Butler, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Cooper & JoAnn Trevilion, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who were like family.

Dorothy and Tom lived for many years in Corpus Christi, where she immersed herself in caring for her family, volunteering with the Little League, and growing her beloved flowers. As the kids grew up, she returned to full time work at Employers Insurance. They were long-time members of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

In 2004, they moved to Yorktown, where they returned to their roots on a small farm, raising cattle and giving her more room for her gardening. They were members of Gruenau Hall, and she always enjoyed the camaraderie during the preparations for the semi-annual sausage dinners. They were members of Yorktown United Methodist Church, where she volunteered on the prayer chain and on the Board of Trustees.

Dorothy loved to travel, especially enjoying road trips with friends to Mexico, Crested Butte and Fredericksburg. She also loved visiting with family in Louisiana and Mississippi, New England and the Amish country. And she was always ready to join in any family trip and fishing with Tom while they lived in Corpus Christi.

One of Dorothy’s final wishes was to meet her youngest great-granddaughter, Emilia, who was born March 15, in Wheaton, Illinois, and we’re all grateful she was able to do so just days before she passed away.

Visitation will be held at Massey Funeral Home, Yorktown, on Wednesday, June 10, at 10 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. A graveside service and burial will be at Wintergreen Cemetery, Port Gibson, on Saturday, June 13, at 11 am.

Honorary pall bearers will be Ted and Vernell Dlugosch, Wayne and Margie Smith, Sara and Jordan Lassmann, Victoria Vargas, and Ben and Nancy Tucker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
