Eduvijes Cortez Obituary

On the morning of January 4, 2021 Eduvijes Salinas Cortez was called home to heaven. He departed this earth with his wife and youngest daughter at his side. He was born Oct. 1, 1947 in Choate, Karnes County TX to the late Carlos and Estela Salinas Cortez. Eduvijes was known to all as Vic, he worked in the oil field all of his working years. He made many lifelong friends through his work and throughout the Nordheim community, where he and his wife lived for 20 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Maria Sylvia Cortez, daughters Anna (David) Ochoa, Julie (Leonard) Ramirez, Pauline Cortez as well as his grandchildren Michael (Madison) Cortez, Leonardo Cortez Ramirez, David Ochoa ,Amanda Ramirez, Lucas Ramirez, Aaron Martinez, Zack Martinez, His great Grand Daughter Lucille Amelia Cortez, four siblings Alfredo (Rosa) Cortez, Carlos (Maria Elena) Cortez, Alma Gloria Cortez, Oscar Cortez, 7 in-law siblings Hortencia (Ramon) Guardado, Dora Salinas, Diana Torrez, Susan (Servero) Salas, Guadalupe (Patricia) Garcia, Mario Garcia, Felix (Gail) Garcia, and numerous nephews and nieces.  

Vic is preceded in death by his parents Carlos D. and Estela Salinas Cortez, his youngest sister Maria Alicia Cortez, both maternal and paternal grandparents, his father and mother-in-law Vidal Garcia and Amelia Rodriguez Garcia.

Pallbearers are Michael Cortez, David Ochoa, Mario Garcia, Marcus Garcia, Jonathan Pena, and Steven Torrez. Honorary pallbearers are Aaron Martinez,  Zack Martinez and Freddy Cortez.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thurs. Jan. 7, 2021 with Rosary beginning at 7 pm at Massey Funeral Home. Procession will begin at 9:30 am from Massey Funeral Home to Holy Cross Catholic church for Funeral Mass at 10 am Fri. Jan. 8, 2021. Interment to follow at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Nordheim, Texas.

Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all who have sent their condolences and prayers. Also Thank you to Yorktown EMS for their response, medic John Green, for the aid he provided our father and the kindness he has always shown our family, Deputy Dennis S. “T” Torres Jr of the Dewitt county Sherriff’s office for the compassion he provided my mother and I on Monday morning, Judge Blanca S. McBride DeWitt County Justice of the Peace PCT. 2 for the empathy she exhibited during the inquest as well as the staff from Massey Funeral Home for the wonderful care they used in picking up our father and preparing him for his final resting. We would also like to thank Kali Saunders Owner/Operator of the Goliad Flower Company for the Casket Spray and Pallbearers boutonnieres. We would also like to thank Cuero Home health, namely nurses Karen Garrett, Margaret Pullen, Nancy Doehrman, Claudia Dismuke, and Former employees’ nurses Nancy Brown and Jennifer Herman, for the care and assistant they provided to our father and the peace of mind their care provided to our family. We would also like to mention a special heartfelt thankful to our father’s doctors: Cardiologist Dr. Kar, Vascular Surgeon Dr. Arain, Nephrologist Dr. Asadulla Khan and their staff in the Houston, Texas Medical Center for the years of car these professionals provided. Another special Thank you to Essential Diabetes and Endocrine Care Dr. Aliya Hayes for the wonderful care she provided our father while he was a patient of hers.
