Joan Vernell (Egg) Gohmert

Joan Vernell Gohmert, 95 of Meyersville, passed away peacefully into the arms of our savior on January 10, 2025. Joan was born on October 12, 1929 in Dewitt County to Edwin and Cora Wendel Egg. She married Charles Gohmert on October 9, 1948 in Meyersville at St. John Lutheran Church. Together they had five children: Karen, Thomas, Susan, John Lloyd, and Bruce.
Joan is survived by her children Karen Dueser, Susan (Finley) Frels, John Lloyd (Brenda) Gohmert, Bruce (Donna) Gohmert, sister Alice Moring, daughter-in-law Sandra Gohmert, sister-in-law Elizabeth Beard, 10 grandchildren 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Thomas Gohmert, siblings Ralph Egg, Jimmy Egg, Mary Ellen Egg, and Ruth Moore.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Cary Dueser, Wade Dueser, Brent Gohmert, Gray Mosier, Philip Brewer, Nick Picard, Brent Coates, Matt Nelson, Rick Martin, and Trey Parma. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters: Kim Mosier, Kristy Brewer, Jennifer Coates, Stacey Nelson, Johnna Picard, Hannah Gohmert, Ashley Martin, and Meagan Parma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion, St. John Lutheran Church of Meyersville, Texas, or Peace Lutheran Church of Woodsboro, Texas.
Visitation will be 9-10 am Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church in Meyersville. Funeral Service will begin at 10 am. Interment to follow at St. John Cemetery.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Becky Banda who stayed with mom at the end. Becky was a God send and mom even taught her how to play SkipBo. Thanks also to the bridge ladies and the cousin's domino group. Mom looked forward to those days eagerly.
