Joyce Lingo Obituary

Joyce Ann Lingo was born May 16, 1942 in Beaumont Tx to Raymond Lingo and Elna Hennig Lingo. Joyce passed away peacefully November 17, 2020 after a long battle with heart disease.

Her parents moved to Houston when she was a child and she graduated from Aldine High School in 1960. Joyce continued to stay in contact with many of her childhood and school friends from Houston.

In 1978, Joyce moved from Houston to Yorktown. Family roots were long established here with her grandmother’s home place that she lived on until her passing. She was the Yorktown Elementary School secretary for 19 plus years. She enjoyed this time of her life and had very fond memories of the school district staff that she worked with for so many years. After retirement from Yorktown ISD, she continued to work as a secretary at the Connally Unit and then later worked at Taylor Shell in Yorktown and was a Gate Guard around several counties during the big oil boom. She enjoyed working, meeting new people and rarely met a stranger.

The true love of Joyce’s life was her family. She was blessed to be born with a best friend, her twin sister, Janet. They were nearly inseparable throughout their entire lives. Joyce and Janet’s children often said “we have two mothers”.

Joyce loved baking and preparing meals with her daughters, grandchildren and family members. Many an afternoon was spent with her trying to perfect recipes and make everything taste just as good as hers. Joyce cherished and looked forward to family reunions, get togethers and visits with old family friends. It was her tradition to bake a requested pie, cake or cookies for a birthday or holiday. Her family looked forward to their special request made especially by her. She has passed the love of family traditions down to her daughters, their children and great grandchildren.

Joyce also enjoyed traveling. She especially loved trips to the casinos and cruises with her twin sister, Janet. They always come home with a funny story about their adventures together.

Joyce has been the matriarch of her family. She was a beloved and devoted sister, mom and Granny. We, her family, will miss her dearly. Her zest for life, generosity and sweet smile will not be forgotten . We have gained a beautiful angel in Heaven.

She is survived by her daughters Lee Ann (Freddie) Solis and Rhonda (Jack) Fuller. Grandchildren Derek (Karissa) Eckhardt, Megan (Ricky) Chisum, Blake Lemos, Katie Lemos, Jack and Austin Fuller. Her great grandchildren are Dalton and Kolton Eckhardt, Aiden, Cash and Adeline Chisum.
She is also survived by sisters, Janet (James) Deason, Alice (Don) Deason and brother Ray (Anita) Lingo along with numerous nieces and nephews.
