Katherine (Kat) Marie Scherlen, 69, of Yorktown passed away on July 11, 2024. She was born in Hallettsville on February 28, 1955 to the late Hubert Carl and Mary Agnes Kozel Grahmann.
Kat married Richard (Rick) Scherlen on November 22, 1975 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. She worked for the City of Victoria and then was a bookkeeper and co-owner of C.S. Auto Supply/Martin Sales Co. In 2000, she went back to farming and ranching with Rick after selling their business. Kat loved traveling and spending time with friends, gardening and taking care of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Rick, daughters Michelle (Chris) Landrum and Sandra (Jarrod) Compton, grandchildren Connor and Paige Landrum, Mary and Jane Compton. She is also survived by her brothers Michael (Susan) Grahmann, Patrick Grahmann, Dominic (Josephine) Grahmann, sisters Diana (Mike) De La Rosa, Christine Grahmann, Grace (Gene) Rees and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws Cyrill and Viola Scherlen, nephews Christopher Grahmann, Ryan Grahmann, Ethan Griffiths and brother-in-law James Kasper.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Gwosdz, Mark Matula, Eric Grahmann, Quentin Grahmann, Cody De La Rosa, Dustin Rees, and Derek Rees. Honorary pallbearers are Ross Grahmann and Dillon Rees.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Tuesday July 16, 2024 with Rosary beginning at 7 pm at Massey Funeral Home in Yorktown, TX. Funeral Mass will be 10 am Wednesday July 17, 2024 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown, TX.
