Lan Baumann Obituary

Lan D. Baumann, 66, of Georgetown, Texas, went home to her Lord on Saturday November 3, 2018.

Lan was born on October 11, 1952, in Midland Texas to Luke Henry and Earline Durio. At an early age, her father relocated to Lake Arthur Louisiana, where Lan grew up. Lan was the eldest of four children. She loved the South Louisiana lifestyle and often referred to the area as “The Motherland.” She was as close to heaven as one could be on earth with her feet dangling in the water, off the back of a boat in the bayous of South Louisiana. She delighted in watching the frogs, crawfish, ducks and geese while enjoying a cup of strong Louisiana chicory coffee. (Life was too short to drink bad coffee!) She thoroughly enjoyed crappie fishing in any lake, anywhere, and always came back with her limit.

She graduated valedictorian of the 1970 Lake Arthur Louisiana class and then went on to get her degree in Medical Records from McNeese State University.

At the urging of her father, she moved to Houston to pursue a career in the medical field and worked her entire career in the Houston Medical Center, retiring from Baylor College of Medicine after working with Drs. Joe Leigh Simpson, Sandi Carson, John Buster, and others.  She maintained contacts with them throughout her life and loved helping others. She particularly loved the reproductive genetics research being conducted while at Baylor. While Dr. Simpson conducted the research, Lan always felt she “kept him published.”

Lan was a kind and gentle soul who could find beauty in anything, and appreciated music and art. She was an accomplished pianist and often played hymns into the wee hours of the morning when she was not too tired from work. Music was “an expression of the soul,” she always said. In later years, she discovered water coloring and spent many relaxing hours engaged in that activity. She shied away from conflict and controversy, and strongly preferred The Hallmark Channel to the various political news channels on TV. Her faith was always the center of her life and she attended various classes and Bible studies at her church and participated in the hand bell choir at Trinity Lutheran, Klein, Texas, and Faith Lutheran, in Georgetown, Texas.

Lan had a zest for life in everything she did, and pursued all endeavors with great emotion and passion. Nothing was ever routine. She made everything an adventure. When cooking Lousiana “Cajun” food, she only used fresh spices and would spend all day doing it, making sure that along with the spices, she added a lot of love. Even a mundane task like doing laundry was made an adventure by trying all sorts of strange detergents and additives.

Lan is survived by her husband, Wilfred, of Georgetown, Texas; brother Luke (Kaye) Durio of Nordheim, Texas; brother Schirmer (Phyllis) Durio of Jennings, Louisiana; niece Sadie Thibodeaux (Nick Blady), of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana; niece Annie Kline (Jason), of Denver Colorado; niece Katie Redkey of Moss Bluff, Louisiana; nephews Cody (Whitney) Durio of Lake Arthur Louisiana; nephew Garrett (Jordan) Durio of Basile, Louisiana; nephew Caleb (Kristen) Durio of Sulphur Louisiana; and nephew Broc Crochet of Iota, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents, Luke Henry Sr. and Earline Durio and her sister, Dharma Jones.

Pallbearers are Nick Blady, Guy Broussard, Caleb Durio, Cody Durio, Garrett Durio, and Jason Kline. Honorary pallbearers are Annie Kline, and Sadie Thibodeaux.
