Maezie Schwab Obituary

Maezie A. Schwab, 87, of Yorktown, went to be with her Lord on June 19, 2021. She was born June 22, 1933 in San Antonio to the late Eva Nell Robertson. She was adopted by John G. and Mae A. Kerlick in 1936 and moved to Yorktown, Texas. She and her new family, aunts, uncles and cousins enjoyed a very close bond, most of the aunts and uncles living on the same street which made it very nice for the cousins to become best friends and spend a lot of time with each other.

Maezie married Karl Schwab on March 16, 1950, she and Karl started their family in 1952 where they had 3 girls, Beverly, Cheryl and Gay. Eventually moving to Golden, Colorado for Karl to pursue his career as a gunsmith. After Karl finished Gun Smith School, they moved back to Yorktown where Karl opened up several gun shops at different times. Maezie took care of the girls until they were out of school and then Maezie and Karl ran the gun shop together. She had a lot of personality, she never met a stranger, could talk to anyone; truly enjoyed meeting people and striking up a conversation.

Then in 1992 Maezie pursued locating her birth mother thru a little Baptist Church on Tally Road, she found her answer. Her mother’s name was Eva Nell Robertson and she was currently living in San Antonio. She also found out she had two half-sisters, Linda Smith and Susan Nentwich who also lived in San Antonio. Thru the little Baptist Church, we were able to talk and meet with the family. It was a wonderful reunion after six decades of not knowing each other, mom was delighted to meet them all and loved them beyond measure.

As time passed Maezie became a grandmother to 9, great grandmother to 22 and great great grandmother to 10. She loved all her kids and grandkids and like to boast as to how many were in the family.

After Karl’s departure life changed tremendously for Maezie, she not only lost the love of her life but her best friend and dinner partner. Life went on but with assistance from the nursing home and her family. Over time Parkinson’s prevailed and mother’s life as we knew it ended. She left this world in peace knowing that everything was where it should be and that God and Karl were awaiting her. That her kids and family loved her and that it was time to rest.

She was definitely a character in her lifetime and will truly be missed by many.

We Love you Mom!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl L. Schwab, mother Mae A. Kerlick, father John G. Kerlick, brother John Garland Kerlick and birth mother Eva Nell Robertson.
