Richard "Rick" Mallahan Obituary

Colonel Richard "Rick" A. Mallahan, 73, of Yorktown passed away Tuesday, November 15. He was born October 2, 1949, in Duluth, MN, to the late John Rymer and Mildred Archer Mallahan.

Rick spent most of his childhood in Panama and graduated from Beaumont High School in 1967, where he met the love of his life, Lonni Collins Mallahan. He graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelors in business and later earned his MBA. It was during this time that he attended a revival where he heard the gospel and put his faith in Jesus Christ. This was a pivotal moment and influenced the course of the rest of his life. Rick served in the Air Force for 28 years as a pilot, inspector general, and in several command positions. Rick then served as Assistant Commandant of Academics and Discipline at the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University, College Station, for nine years. From there, he became Commandant of the Corps at Texas A&M, Galveston, culminating in 45 years of uniformed service. He retired from paid work in 2017 to care for his twin brother, Rob, and stayed extremely active on the ranch and in Yorktown First Baptist Church where he served faithfully as an elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher and youth leader. He also was a part of the Christian Warriors Retreat team and volunteered in his community. He was an avid runner and enjoyed brisk walks on the ranch and working out daily.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lonni Mallahan; children, Bethany (Larry) Noel, Rebecca (Miles) Becker, Mark (Elaine) Mallahan and sister, Melinda (David) Hunt. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nate Noel, Anna Noel, Ellie Noel, Emma Becker, Collin Becker, Nobel Mallahan; nephews, Chris (Julie) Hunt, Jeff (Chrissy) Hunt, Andrew (Lacey) Hunt; Sunjin Hunt and great-nephews and nieces, Ethan, Ryan, Brandon, MacKenzie, Adelyn and Vivienne.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Robert Mallahan and granddaughter, Lucy Belle Mallahan.

Visitation is 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 19, at Yorktown First Baptist Church, with the funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Westside Cemetery. Lunch will follow at Yorktown First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
