Thomas Smiley, 77, of Yorktown was born October 29, 1942 at home in Wood County to the late Dorothy Boggs Roberson and William Smiley. He graduated from Grand Saline High School in 1961. He married Luellen “Jelly” Persons in 1961, and together attended East Texas State University, graduating in 1966. Together they had two children, Mary Michael (Barry) Koenig, and John William (Becky) Smiley. Throughout his life he was involved in farming and ranching, as an Ag teacher in Nordheim, manager of Nordheim Farmer’s Coop, and as a ranch manager. The last 25 years he was owner of Yorktown Hardware and Repair. He was member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He was survived by his wife, son, and daughter. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Trent (Erin) Koenig, Tyler (Audrey) Koenig, Troy (Lindsey) Koenig, Jordan(Travis) Campbell, Jake (Bianca) Smiley, and 9 great-grandchildren, plus 2 on the way and also his sister Sherry Robinson
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bill Roberson.
Due to the current health situation, there will be a private family service.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown EMS, YAMS, or Donor’s Choice.
