Victoria (Valdez) Garza

Victoria V. Garza, 89, of Yorktown, passed away at home on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Victoria was born March 6, 1934 in Goliad to the late Reymundo and Geronima Martinez Valdez. She was a member of San Luis Catholic Church and was a Guadalupana. Cooking was one of her many gifts that all of her children enjoyed with each one of them having their favorite dish. She volunteered at Yorktown Alliance Ministry and was always ready to help at San Luis Church Jamaica making hamburgers and tamales. Our sweet mother will be remembered for having had a heart of a servant always willing to help others. 1 Peter 4:10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.

Victoria is survived by her children; Vickie Reyes, Maria Gomez, Louisa Alvarez, Pedro (Precilla) Garza, Nora (Troy) Garcia, Philip (Nicole) Garza and son-in-law Joe Alvarez. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Robert (Jennifer) Reyes, Richard (Karisa) Reyes, Roger Reyes, Rubin Reyes, Ramiro Gomez, Douglas Gomez, Carlos (Kiera) Gomez, Norma (Cruz) Luera, Crusita Gomez (Daniel Palamarez), Lira Gomez (Logan Garcia), Patrick Alvarez (Sarah Hughes), Amy (Michael) Rodriguez, Gwendle (Fernando) Rodriguez, Gabrielle Garza (Mardi Newkirk), Pedro Manuel (Angelica) Garza, Julie (Dylan) Hughes, Mario Garza (Chloe Ellison), Katrina Jackson (Byrce Proctor), Jeffrey (Crystal) Jackson, Anna Garcia (Nicholas Fuentes), Jesse (Jami) Garcia, Steven Garcia, Joshua Garza, Samuel Garza, Daniel Garza, Victoria Grace Garza, 58 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, sister Maria Mendoza, brother Ismael Valdez Sr. and numerous nieces, nephews and friends to cherish her memory.

Victoria is preceded in death by her husband Pedro Garza, parents, son-in-law Willie Reyes, sisters Paula Vega, Aurora Perez, Angela Perez, Sophia Hernandez, brothers Leonardo Valdez, Julian Valdez, Samuel Valdez, Frank Valdez, Estaquio M. Valdez, Benito Valdez Sr. and Joe Valdez.

Visitation 5-7 pm Thursday, May 25, 2023 with Rosary at 7 pm at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral Mass 10 am Friday May 26, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment to follow at San Luis Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to San Luis Catholic Church, Yorktown EMS, or donor's choice.

Pallbearers are Robert Reyes, Ramiro Gomez, Patrick Alvarez, Jesse Garcia, Jay Garza and Troy Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Jeff Massey.
