I heard Charlie went ahead of us again and checked out. So I will say to you all who know him that as a young person, In the corporate world, the man above else taught me that honesty is the best policy and that helped me through some tough issues and helped me way more than I would ever imagine.

I also thought I was good at math, but when he told me he married his 3rd wife twice, I said forget it, I still got a lot to figure out. Also, if he knew you were up to it, Bud had no problem throwing you to the wolves without a tether but still did it in a caring like kind of way.

I’ll forever miss his one liners like…

I am so happy I could be twins

I am on it like a duck on a june bug

I am busier than a one armed paper hanger (I never got that one)

This place is driving me to -off.

This place is driving me to drinken.

You passed your ua, let’s go celebrate! (personal level)

Or when we were gonna kill each other for whatever reason he would announce that it was time to stop what we were doing and have an off site safety meeting. And then at the safety meeting, we played by the two beer rule.

I admit the last time I saw him I was not that nice …when I asked him if he had grown up any since the last time I saw him. Bud did not like being short and talking bout it was never on the table.

In his memory, I will do something nice for a stranger and look at the world a little different and take the time to chill out, say screw it, and have some fun on this roller coaster ride.

Thanks for being there and taking stock. For you that knew him so much more closely, tank you for sharing.

Take care friend. RIP
Bert

I have never so moved while reading a stranger's obit. If only the world had more men like this wonderful human being. God bless his family and may his legacy live on.

We are related to Mac and Alice McKenzie, and were lucky enough to have met Bud many times while visiting the McKenzie's in Cuero.. Margie happen to be in Cuero this week when we found out Bud had passed. I was with the McKenzie's tonight as we tried to make it to visit with the family, so sorry we couldn't make it.
God bless you all and we will all miss BUD.

Charlie and family, Mac and I were so sad to learn of BUD's passing. We thought so much of him and considered him a close friend of ours. We think back to the years we spent as close neighbors, also the many years Mac and grandson, Lonnie, dove hunted with Bud. I remember Mac and Bud gardening together, and the year they made so many onions they had to haul them in their trailers hooked to their riding lawnmowers. That was a sight to see !! We missed Bud when he moved, but got to visit him from time to time and see his beautiful garden he grew in Yorktown.
We were on our way to the visitation tonight but the weather got really bad and we felt it was best to come home. We really wanted to visit with all of you tonight, so sorry we missed that.
We pray God will comfort all of you as we know you will miss Bud daily.
With our love,
Mac & Alice McKenzie

I offer my condolences to the family of Charles Milton Mattox, Senior. It was always a pleasure to see and visit with him. My hunting experiences with "Bud" here in Texas and in South Dakota were memorable due to his knowledge, wisdom, and good humor. May God rest his soul.

Bud was as good a friend as anyone could ask for. He believed in sharing what knowledge and skills he had to better others. Bud was an excellent teacher and trainer. He introduced me to the world of competitive shooting and taught me what "real" dove hunting was all about! Bud had a positive impact on my life when I lived in Cuero and was a member of CGC and those times will never be forgotten. God rest his soul and my condolences go out to the family.
