Charles "Bud" Mattox

Charles (Bud) Milton Mattox Sr. passed from this world on April 12, 2017.  He was born in Houston, Texas to Charles Kermit Mattox and Theelda Frances Rockey (Granny) Mattox on September 21, 1942.  He was 74 years old when he passed.

He spent his youth in the trees of East Texas with his immediate and extended family and friends.  He proudly served 9 years in the United States Air Force.  He worked his way up from the assembly line to the Vice-President of Tank Technology.   He was an avid hunter, golfer, fisher and knife maker, as many in the community know.  His presence on “the corner” in Yorktown will be missed.

He is survived by his son Charles (Mary Kay) Mattox, Jr., and his daughters, Bethany Payne and Kim (Thomas) McIntosh, grandchildren Charles “Trey” Mattox III, Seth Mattox, Stephanie Mattox, Brandon Mattox, Ashley Brem, Christopher Nix, Colton Stark, and Caitlyn McIntosh, as well as great-grandchildren Anaya Mattox, Jordan Mattox, Lucy Bea Mattox, and Olivia Brem.

He was a thinker, a philosopher, a diplomat.  He had a heart of gold to anyone in need.  He always had a kind word, thoughtful insight and grateful consideration for all human kind.  He had special place in his heart for his dogs, almost above those humans he held most dear.  He trained is dogs fervently throughout the years and enjoyed every minute of it.  He was a lover of many things, but at the pinnacle, he was a lover of life.  There weren’t many things of which he didn’t have some sort of knowledge, but he had no problem sharing whatever intelligence he had. He made sure that those he held closest were put on his own private pedestal, making sure to show only that part of his heart that was reserved only for them.  He was rock, a foundation on which others held onto, a sage who never judged when imparting his wisdom and the example of a human being we could only hope to be like. 

If you ever asked what he needed, he always said “A few kind words and a little understanding”.  He always said that he always wanted be as good of a man as he thought his dog thought he was.  And he was that….and more.

Visitation will be 5-8 pm Mon. April 17, 2017 at Massey Funeral Home.
